In an Uncharted Country

This isn't the last time I'll mention this, but I'm thrilled to announce that my short story collection, In an Uncharted Country, will be published by Press 53 in the fall of 2009. The stories in the collection are linked by setting, theme, and character. As the publication date gets closer, I'll be sharing more information about availability, readings and signings, and more.

New Issue: Per Contra

The Winter issue of Per Contra went live today. I'm especially pleased about that because my story In the Palace of Cortés is in this issue, along with contributions from some other fine writers.

New Issue: Whitefish Review

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm told that the Summer 2008 issue of Whitefish Review has just been released. Although the highlights of the issue have to be a story by and interview with Rick Bass, and a story by Annick Smith, there also happens to be a story by me: "The Nymph and the Woodsman." I'm delighted to be in the same issue with these great writers.

Forthcoming

It seems to be the natural rhythm of things. This is the time of year--so my records tell me--when I begin hearing from magazines that they want to publish work that I've sent them in the preceding months. And so I've heard recently that my story "Adjunct" will be in the July issue of Predicate (online, followed by a print edition) and my story "The Nymph and the Woodsman" is forthcoming in Whitefish Review, a new print journal that I'm very excited about. On the shorter front, two pieces from my flash series have also been picked up. "Papel Picado" will be in Wigleaf later this year, and "No Sudden Moves" will be in Right Hand Pointing in the near future. All of which is great news.

"Leviathan" in R.KV.R.Y

It was my very first story acceptance and the second to appear in print when it came out in North Dakota Quarterly in 2004. And now the fascinating magazine R.KV.R.Y has reprinted Leviathan in its Winter 2008 issue.

I'm thrilled, not only because I'm fond of the story but also because I think this is a fine magazine that's beautifully put together. (R.KV.R.Y also reprinted the first of my stories to be published, The Clattering of Bones, in its Summer 2006 issue.)

It's been a long time in the making, but Issue Number Two of The Hub is live at last and includes a story by me: The White Swan.
