If in any sense Short Story Month is viewed as a competition (American Idol? Dancing with the Stars?), then my pick for the first story collection to discuss here is setting the bar very high indeed. I can’t imagine a better book of stories than Male of the Species by Alex Mindt (Delphinium Books, May 2007).[NOTE: I've taken down my review of this book because an expanded version will soon appear in Rain Taxi.]

Thanks for reviewing this one Cliff - it's an author I'm sadly late to the party on - just saw the EW selection of it as a Pick of the Week last week and it sounded great - you only enhance that. Will look for it.
