With this story, One Story takes a dark turn. “The Wolf Story” by Irina Reyn is about Galya, the granddaughter of a Holocaust survivor, who is disturbed by (and at the same time denies) the shallowness of her life in New York, caught up in clubs and restaurants and a dehumanizing job. Her friend is moved by deeper waters to explore her Jewish heritage in Poland and when the story begins Galya has arrived in Warsaw to visit, to offer her help to Lauren who has a problem. But is Lauren really the one with the problem, the story asks? This is one of the better stories I’ve seen in One Story in quite a while.
