Arrival

The trip down to Charlotte was beautiful--a sunny day, golden leaves on the mountains. If not for all the traffic it would have been perfect. The group (minus faculty, who arrive on Friday) gathered at Burwell Parlors for our welcome reception. It was good to see Fred Leebron, Mike Kobre and Jenny Matz (the program administration) and all of the participants, some of whom I was meeting for the first time. We then moved to the auditorium for a reading, beginning with Karon Luddy reading from her novel Spelldown, which is coming out from Simon & Schuster in January, followed by Susan Meyers, reading from her book of poetry, Keep and Give Away. Good stuff. Then many of us went over to Martha Brenner's house for wine and dessert . . . and that was enough for one day! Stay tuned.
